 Call for Submissions

Are you a local Chicago artist looking for a space to display your work? Beginning in late fall, Boxville will begin offering artists 3-month residencies in our micro-gallery off the 51st Green Line. The gallery, dubbed the Art Box, is located within a 160 square foot shipping container at the west edge of the thriving Boxville marketplace beneath and adjacent to the 51st Street Green Line station. Artists are also encouraged to display their work in the Bronzeville Incubator, a business incubator, co-working space and event venue on 51st and Prairie during their residency in the Art Box.

Applications are due October 9th at 11:59PM and can be found at http://bit.ly/boxvilleartbox.

Residency Details

Chosen artists will be given full creative control over the gallery for 3 months. This includes the Art Box facade and certain outdoor walls if the artist desires. Additionally, artists are encouraged to select at least 4 of their works to display inside the Bronzeville Incubator.

Artists will also be responsible for gallery management during their residence (with support from Boxville staff). We ask that they open the gallery to the public for at least 10 hours a week, and that they coordinate their own sales. Otherwise, the logistics of the residency are flexible. Artists can decide their own programming and utilization of the space. Build Bronzeville will provide funding for an opening reception at the Bronzeville Incubator, and for printing/marketing materials. Artists will also be offered a free membership to the Bronzeville Incubator during the duration of their residency.

Applications are due October 9th, 2019. The final artist will be announced the week of October 21st. Applicants from Bronzeville or with work celebrating Bronzeville will be given preference. Artists not chosen for the first exhibit will be considered for later cycles.
